1. Combine water and sugar in a pot on high hear and stir well.
2. Reduce the heat to a simmer and the add cloves, cinnamon star anise, vanilla pod, orange slices, cherries and cherry juice. Simmer for a few minutes.
4. Reduce the heat further, add the wine and let it barely simmer for 30 minutes to 2 hours.
5. Serve in a mug.
